The first two months of the Summer 2022 season are in the books! The Makena Royals and Kihei Centipedes each picked up 3 wins during the month of September and currently hold the top two seeds with 6 weeks left to play. That said, there’s plenty of baseball left to be played, and plenty of teams within striking distance of the 1st round playoff byes.
The Player of the Month candidates listed below were selected based on their performances during September games, with no more than one candidate per team. Voting is open to players, fans, and family, and is limited to 1 vote per individual.
Austin Beesley of the La Perouse Pirates led the Pirates staff in September, going 1-1 with a 1.98 ERA, .180 opponents average, and 0.96 WHIP over 9.1 IP. Beesley struck out 12 over than span for the 2nd best K/9 rate in the league (11.57).
Craig Coffman has been part of a strong group of rookies contributing to the early success of the Kaanapali Coast Monarchs. Across 4 games Coffman batted .429 (6 for 14) with a pair of doubles, and 4 runs scored and 4 driven in; his 8 total bases were the second most in the league in September.
Dreyson Cordova of the Makena Royals put together a pair a strong performances on the mound, going 2-0 with 12 Ks, a 0.64 ERA, and a league-best .125 opponents batting average over 14.0 IP. That included a complete game against the Lahaina Warriors on Sep 4, scattering 5 hits and 1 walk, and only 1 unearned run to earn the win, and a complete game 1-hitter in a mercy-rule victory over the Pirates on Sep 18.
The Upcountry Dirtbags’ Tommy Hauptman led the league in runs (7), hits (7), and stolen bases (6) over the month of September, driving in 5 runs in the process to go with a .500/.563/.500 AVG/OBP/SLG line.
The Lahaina Warriors’ John Lamb struck out 17 Royals over 7 innings on Sep 4 as part of another dominant month in which the southpaw led the league in ERA (0.00) and strikeouts (20) over 9.0 IP.
Since returning to the lineup on September 11, Roman Tillman has led the Kihei Centipedes to three straight wins, good for the 2nd seed with just over a month left of the regular season. The ‘Pedes outfielder is batting .714 (5 for 7) with a .833 on-base percentage, and 1.000 slugging percentage (all tops in the league this month) with a league-best 7 runs scored over 3 games.
The West Maui Brewers’ Jeff Tucker batted .455 (5 for 11) with a pair of doubles and 5 runs scored during the month of September, driving in a pair of runs over that span.
