Vote for April/May POTM

The Spring 2021 regular season is in the books, and the playoff seeding is set! Round 1 begins with a doubleheader this Sunday in Kihei. But before it does, we must crown the last Player of the Month.

The April/May 2021 Player of the Month candidates listed below were selected based on their performances during the month of April plus the final regular season games on May 2, with no more than one candidate per team. Voting is open to players, fans, and family, and is limited to 1 vote per individual. The winner will receive a MABL t-shirt from the shop!

Veteran Jonah Abreu of the Central Rays led the league with 11 TB in the month. 3 of his 7 hits went for extra bases for a solid 0.467/0.529/0.733 slash line to go along with 4 RBI and 4 runs scored. Jonah looks to continue bringing the power for the Rays as they battle the Brewers in the first round of the playoffs.

Keoni Luft was strong on the mound and at the plate for the Upcountry Dirtbags. He helped lock up the 3rd seed in the playoffs behind 20 IP, in which he struck out 11 while allowing only 2 BB. Keoni ended the month with 2 doubles, 2 RBI, 5 R, and 2 SB in route to a 0.462 AVG and 1.148 OPS.

West Maui Brewers ace Andy Michaels is at it again with his second POTM nomination this season, capping off April with his 3rd CG (of the month!). Michaels led the league in IP (31) and ERA (1.45) among qualifiers this cycle. His effort helped the Brewers secure the #4 seed heading into the playoffs.

I’ll have what Kevin Spaise is having. The Kihei Centipedes’ third baseman hit safely in each game with multi-hit games in 3 of the 4 contests. Among qualifiers, he hit a league best 0.615 in the month (8 H) to go along with 2 RBI. In a season where the league has seen an influx of good junior talent, this young ‘un helped propel the Centipedes into the final playoff spot.

Makena Royals rookie Jacob Tiu got it done on the mound in the month of April. With 2 W, Tiu helped the Royals end the regular season with the league best record and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. He allowed only 8 H and 3 ER in 15 IP. His 0.151 OBA and 0.73 WHIP were tops in the league for the month among qualifiers.
