The Summer 2022 Maui Adult Baseball League end-of-season award winners as decided by player votes are listed below. A total of 66 MABL players submitted awards ballots this season.
Most Valuable Player: Ryan Swindle of the Kihei Centipedes was voted the MVP of the Spring 2022 season. Swindle led his team to their first Championship Series appearance since the Spring 2018 season, batting .611 with 22 hits, 19 runs, 10 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases over 12 regular season games. In addition Swindle had a 3.70 ERA and 18 Ks over 24.1 IP on the mound. Frank Lettieri of the Upcountry Dirtbags finished second in MVP voting.
Cy Young Award: The Lahaina Warriors’ John Lamb won the MABL Cy Young award after going 3-1 with a 1.00 ERA and striking out 68 batters over 36.1 IP. Lamb’s 16.83 K/9 is the highest single-season mark in league history. Dreyson Cordova of the Makena Royals was the runner-up in the Cy Young award voting.
Rookie of the Year: Shortstop Frank Lettieri of the Dirtbags was the overwhelming choice for Rookie of the Year. Lettieri set a single-season record by batting .774 over 37 plate appearances this season, scoring 18 runs and driving in 15 over that span. JR Kenolio of the Kaanapali Coast Monarchs finished second in ROY voting.
Manager of the Year: The Centipedes’ Kacey & Ryan Swindle earned their third Manager of the Year award in the past four seasons. The Swindles managed the ‘Pedes to a 8-4 regular season record after missing the playoffs during the Spring 2022 season. Rich Doster of the Dirtbags and Anthony Benigno of the Monarchs were runners-up for Manager of the Year.
Batting Title: The Dirtbags’ Frank Lettieri won the Summer 2022 MABL Batting Title after batting .774 (24 for 35) during his rookie season. Lettieri edged out the Royals’ Joey Tam Ho, who hit .750 (15 for 20) over 7 games.
Gold Glove: The West Maui Brewers’ Brandon Kagrise was voted the Summer 2022 Gold Glove award winner for his work at shortstop and catcher for the Brewers. Josh Hansen of the Centipedes finished second in Gold Glove voting.
Most Improved: Calvin Johnson of the Upcountry Dirtbags was voted the Most Improved player of the Summer 2022 season. Megatron hit .333 with 16 hits, 11 runs scored, and 13 RBIs for the Dirtbags this season, earning Most Improved recognition for the third time in his MABL career. The Royals’ Dreyson Cordova and the Brewers’ JT Taraya were runners-up in Most Improved voting.
Kenneth Talbot Award: John Lamb of the Warriors was voted the recipient of the Summer 2022 Kenneth Talbot award. Lamb offered weekly practices, free of charge, to the greater Maui baseball community throughout the Summer 2022 season. The practices, which attracted more than 30 participants some weeks, were held at Kalama Park and at the Lahaina baseball field.
