Following the All-Star Game last Sunday, the MABL end-of-season awards were presented by Rich Doster. Award winners were chosen by player votes submitted online.
Niko Nemoto, who has become such an integral part of the Maui Adult Baseball League ‘ohana over the past several seasons, was the players’ overwhelming choice to receive the Ken Talbot award this season. This award honors the memory of one of the league’s past players, recognizing the member of the league who best exemplifies the qualities of sportsmanship, community involvement, and positive contributions towards others, on and off the field.
Following up a sensational rookie season with his second consecutive MABL Batting Title and a new single season record for RBIs (25), the Dirtbags’ Frank Lettieri was tabbed as the league MVP.
John Lamb of the Lahaina Warriors repeated as the league Cy Young award winner in a season where he set a new single-season mark for strikeouts (111).
RHP Stone Hashizaki edged out a number of his Gorilla teammates to earn Rookie of the Year honors after going 2-1 with a 3.74 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 43.1 innings during his franchise’s inaugural season.
Kacey and Ryan Swindle were named co-Managers of the Year for the fourth time in five seasons after leading the Kihei Centipedes to the best record in team history and their second MABL Title.
Chad Blackwell of the Centipedes was awarded the league Gold Glove award for his slick glove work at shortstop for the ‘Pedes this season.
Roy Smith was recognized the league’s Most Improved player after posting career numbers for the Warriors this season.
