Feb 2019 Player of the Month

The first month of the Spring 2019 MABL season is in the books with many players off to a hot start. Five candidates, representing five different teams, were selected for the February Player of the Month poll on the basis of their performances from the first three games of the season. Players, fans, and family members are encouraged to cast their vote through March 4; limited to vote one per individual.


Makena Royals’ rookie Kalei Hendershot started off his MABL career with hits in his first three games. Kalei has helped the Royals to a 2-1 start by hitting .538 (7 for 13) with 3 RBI and a .600 on-base percentage. In a Feb 17 loss to the Centipedes, he picked up 4 hits in 5 trips to the plate.

Casey Kawaguchi of the Lahaina Warriors is among the league leaders in RBI (6), average (.625), on-base (.667), and slugging (.750). The first year player is pacing a Warriors offense which has put up 34 runs in 3 games.

Joseph McFarlin of the La Perouse Pirates has been lights out on the mound, leading the league in ERA (0.00), wins (2), Ks (31), opponents average (.114), and WHIP (0.70) through the first 3 games of the season. In each of his three starts, McFarlin struck out at least 9 batters.

Over 3 appearances, West Maui Brewers’ Andy Michaels is 2-0 with a .162 opponents average and 12 strike outs through 12.1 innings. In a Feb 17 start against the Dirtbags, Michaels scattered 2 hits over 5 shutout innings while striking out 6.

The Central Rays’ Nelson Okamura has been a scoring machine to start the season. Despite missing a game, Okamura leads the league with 10 runs scored to go along with a .400 average and .538 on-base percentage.
