Vote for March POTM

Four games remain in the Spring 2021 regular season, and the race is tight in the middle with 4 teams separated by a game. The Makena Royals and the La Perouse Pirates have locked up playoff spots, while the Kihei Centipedes and Lahaina Warriors are on the outside looking in. Meanwhile, another month in the books and another MABL t-shirt to give away! Speaking of…shameless plug: check out the shop for MABL t-shirts and links to the Team Stores.

The March 2021 Player of the Month candidates listed below were selected based on their performances during the month of March, with no more than one candidate per team. Voting is open to players, fans, and family, and is limited to 1 vote per individual. This month’s award is brought to you by We Move People (wemovepeoplehawaii.com, fb, twitter, ig). The Royals’ Lance Fujii pitched very well in the month of March. Through 10 IP, he earned 2 Ws, leading the league in ERA (0.9), OBA (0.118), and WHIP (0.7); he was 2nd in strikeouts with 16. On 3/14, he went the distance against the Centipedes, allowing only 4 hits while striking out 15.

Veteran Steve Mearriam had a great month offensively. With a 0.500/0.538/0.833 slash line, he amassed 10 TBs from 4 doubles and 2 singles, leading to 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored. He hit safely in all 4 games, continuing a current six-game hit streak. This is the backstop’s first POTM nomination in his 3rd season at the Warriors’ helm.

One of the most improved players in the league in the last few seasons, Matthew Reidy of the Kihei Centipedes is proving to be a stalwart at the plate. 1st in hits (9) and 4th in AVG (0.563), he compiled 2 RBIs, 2 SBs and a 1.126 OPS for the month. His four multi-hit games and error free second base (4 putouts, 11 assists) led to two ‘Pede of the Game awards!

Excelling both at the plate and on the mound, Bryant Sparkman led the Rays to 3 victories in March. Offensively, he hit 0.545/0.545/0.727 with 6 hits, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs scored. With 13 IP, he posted a 2.8 ERA (5th lowest), 1.15 WHIP (4th lowest), and 12 Ks (5th most). He had 2 wins in the month, and one of them came with a save, too! With the ‘Pedes threatening on 3/21, Bryant came back in to close it out for a Rays W.

The Brewers’ Jeff Tucker gets his second straight POTM nomination. He had a killer March: 7 hits (2nd), 5 RBIs (4th), 9 TBs (6th), 1st in all slash categories (0.778/0.769/1.000), and he did most of that in just 3 games! He’s now leading the league in hitting and is near the top in every major offensive category.
