Summer 2025 awards announced

The Summer 2025 Maui Adult Baseball League end-of-season award winners are given below. Award winners were selected by player votes submitted online.

Matt Palmer earned MVP honors after matching the MABL single-season home run record (3) en route to winning the triple crown (.548 batting average, 17 RBIs). The man who literally lives at the batting cages also led the league in stolen bases (9) and OPS — his 1.585 mark was more than 300 points higher than the next highest qualifier. The Lahaina Warriors’ John Lamb finished second in MVP voting.

The La Perouse Pirates’ Roy Meinen dominated on the mound during his first full season of MABL action, going 4-0 with a league-best 0.58 ERA and 0.90 WHIP with 38 Ks over 31.0 innings. Meinen’s performance was good for Cy Young and Rookie of the Year honors. John Lamb and Anthony Pilz of the Makena Tigers were runners up in the Cy Young and ROY voting, respectively.

Roy Smith of the Warriors was voted Manager of the Year award after leading his squad to a first place finish during the regular season with a 10-2 record. Kacey and Ryan Swindle of the Kihei Centipedes and first-year manager Steve Zaragoza of the Tigers were runners-up in MOY voting.

Jacob Chong of the Nahiku Gorillas was awarded the Gold Glove award for his defensive performance around the infield. Ian Josh and Chad Blackwell of the Centipedes finished as runners up in Gold Glove voting.

In addition to receiving MVP consideration, Jerry Ayala earned Most Improved Player honors after hitting .500 (22 for 44) with 13 runs scored, 17 RBIs, and a league-leading 31 total bases.

And for the second consecutive season, the Upcounty Dirtbags’ Ken Henry was recognized by members of the league as this season’s Ken Talbot award recipient. Honoring the memory of one of the league’s past players, this award is given to the member of the MABL who best exemplifies the qualities of sportsmanship, community involvement, and positive contributions towards others, on and off the field.
