Josh Meier became the second player in Maui Adult Baseball League history to reach 400 career hits on Sunday when he drove a ball into the right-center gap leading off the top of the sixth inning. One of only 5 active members of the league to have played in all 32 seasons of MABL action, Meier is the all-time league leader in plate appearances and at bats, and his 338 runs scored are 54 more than anyone else. The newly clean-shaven infielder is a .308 career hitter who put together a 24-game hitting streak from Aug 9, 2009 to Aug 22, 2010, is a former MABL MVP (Fall 2009) and Gold Glove award winner (Spring 2012), and is a 6-time MABL Champion.
A few hours after Meier joined the 400-hit club, Tommy Hauptman of the Upcountry Dirtbags became the founding member of the MABL’s 200 stolen base club. Playing in his 21st season, Hauptman passed Mike Marcotte (197) to become the MABL career leader in steals earlier this season, notching his 6th stolen base on the season on Sunday. Hauptman’s 24 stolen bases during the Spring 2016 season is the second-most in a single season. The Dirtbags’ speedy outfielder is a .307 career hitter, a former MABL Rookie of the Year (Summer 2013) and Gold Glove award winner (Summer 2020), and has won 4 MABL Championship as a member of the Dirtbags — including last spring.
