The Maui Adult Baseball League’s Spring 2022 season will start Sunday, January 23 with games at Maehara Stadium and in Lahaina. The Makena Royals and West Maui Brewers will kick off the action at 10:00am in Lahaina, with the Pacific Hurricanes and the Lahaina Warriors to follow at 1:15pm. After the completion of the AJA games in the Stadium, the Central Rays and La Perouse Pirates will face off at 4:00pm, followed by the Upcountry Dirtbags and Kihei Centipedes under the lights, with first pitch scheduled for 7:00pm.
As we look forward to the upcoming season, there are a few key points to keep in mind:
- Let’s make sure the sportsmanship and camaraderie that’s such a big part of the MABL extends to the league’s umpires. We depend on their contributions each and every week, and more than anything else, they cite the social aspect of the league as their reason for being involved. We want them to continue to feel a welcomed part of the MABL community!
- Any questions about a call or requests for help should come from the team manager, not the players. The umpires want to get the calls right, but no one wants to be shown up.
- Please continue to do a great job taking care of all of the fields we use. We want to make sure we’re leaving them in better shape than we find them: raked and dragged after every game, with dugouts and surrounding area left clean and all trash and recyclables placed in the proper receptacles (not on the ground next to them!).
- As we look forward to getting back into Maehara Stadium this season, keep in mind the additional guidelines that we need to follow there:
- No pregame infield is allowed on the infield
- Players should not warm up or play catch in the grass along the first and third baselines, instead warm up in the outfield or outside of the field of play (to avoid additional wear and tear in high traffic areas)
- After tamping, raking, and dragging the field, home plate and the pitcher’s mound must be covered after the last game of the day. Do not walk on tarps with metal spikes.
- No metal spikes in the batting cages
- No smoking within the Stadium gate
- Pick up all trash in the dugouts and bleachers, and empty all trash cans after the last game of the day and place bags in the dumpsters outside the Stadium gate.
- Regardless of explicitly stated responsibilities after games, it’s in the league’s best interests to ensure field care responsibilities have been met – so if you notice something, please take action!
Prior to the season, all players must review the Maui Adult Baseball League’s Code of Coduct, Field Care Responsibilities, and Return to Play Agreement as a requirement for league participation. Those guidelines can be viewed and accepted here.
Team rosters and the season schedule will be updated in the coming week, so be sure to check back soon!
I visit from Minnesota most every winter for several weeks. Minnesota has a very vibrant amatuer baseball culture and the annual playoffs which take place over labor day weekend attract crowds that number over 2000 attendees over the weekend. I am really impressed by the Maui adult baseball league. You all do a great job and when I visit the Island I look forward to bringing my grandsons to a game. I hope you don’t mind if we cheer. Keep up the good work and “let’s play ball!”
Aloha Jim! Thanks for the comment and the high praise. Hope you all enjoy your trip, and please do feel free to cheer!
