MABL Code of Conduct

The Maui Adult Baseball League (MABL) was formed in 2009 to provide men age 25 and older a competitive recreational baseball program that emphasizes fun, enjoyment, camaraderie and sportsmanship. Mature attitudes must prevail regardless of the competitive nature of the league. Above all, we are here to have fun and play the game we love. The responsibility of keeping this premise is equally borne by the Commissioner, team managers, players, umpires and fans.

While it is impossible to state every possible offense that may be deemed harmful to the welfare and reputation of the league or its members, the following policies are explicitly stated and constitute the MABL Code of Conduct. The MABL Commissioner and Board reserve the right to impose disciplinary action for instances not explicitly stated.

  • No member of the MABL shall engage in, or threaten, physical altercation with any player, manager, umpire, or spectator before, during, or after any MABL event. Any such incident will lead to an immediate ejection and suspension.
  • Objectionable demonstrations of dissent regarding an umpire’s decision are forbidden and are punishable by immediate ejection. Only the team Manager (or designated replacement) is authorized to initiate a discussion with an umpire questioning a decision made by that umpire; such discussions must remain civil and respectful
  • Any manager or player who refuses to abide by an official’s decision shall be immediately suspended from all league functions until further review of the incident by the MABL Board.
  • No manager or player shall verbally abuse any player, manager, umpire, or spectator before, during, or after an MABL event. Such behavior is grounds for immediate ejection and additional suspension of future MABL events, upon review by the Board.
  • No member of the MABL shall consume alcohol, any illegal substances, or smoke on the field of play or in the dugout during any MABL game. Any manager, player, or umpire on the field of play in an intoxicated condition shall be ejected immediately.

MABL Field Care Responsibilities

It is the goal of the MABL to take pride in the fields we play on, and to do our part to ensure the fields are left in great shape for the next users of the facilities. Ultimately, it is the managers’ responsibility to ensure proper field care occurs after each game. Failure to do so may lead to the loss of a team’s access to facilities or addition restrictions or penalties aimed at preserving the league’s ability to obtain field permits. Regardless of explicitly stated responsibilities, all members of the MABL should take action to ensure field care responsibilities have been met each and every time the league uses a field.

  • The home team is responsible for raking and dragging the infield, home plate, and pitcher’s mound areas after every game. When applicable, the batters boxes and pitcher’s mound should be tamped as well. Rake along base paths as to not push dirt into grass edges.
  • Each team is responsible for picking up all trash from the dugout and surrounding area at the conclusion of each game.
  • Any rubbish, cans, or discarded equipment should be placed in a trash or recycling receptacle. Recyclables need to be placed in the appropriate bin, rather than on the ground near it.
  • At Maehara Stadium, Kalama Park, and Maui High the bases must be locked in the scorer’s booth at the conclusion for the last game of the day. Base plugs should be installed in each base receptacle once a base is removed.
  • The manager of the home team is responsible for ensuring the score booth is locked once the field has been cared for and the field care equipment and bases have been secured (if applicable).
  • Additional field care for Maehara Stadium:
    1. No pregame infield is allowed on the infield
    2. Players may not warm up or play catch in the grass along the baselines (to avoid additional wear and tear in high traffic areas)
    3. After tamping, raking, and dragging the field, home plate and the pitcher’s mound must be covered after the last game of the day. Do not walk on tarps with metal spikes.
    4. No metal spikes in the batting cages
    5. No smoking within the Stadium gate
    6. Pick up all trash in the dugouts and bleachers, and empty all trash cans after the last game of the day and place bags in the dumpsters outside the Stadium gate. Ultimately it is the responsibility of the home team’s manager to make absolutely sure this has been completed.

I hereby acknowledge receipt of these rules and agree to abide as a condition for participating in all Maui Adult Baseball League functions.
