Opening Day brings MABL first

Bodhi Johnson threw out the ceremonial first pitch of the Maui Adult Baseball League’s Spring 2020 season before the Pacific Hurricanes and Upcountry Dirtbags took the field in Kihei. The Hurricanes’ Apple Landerman organized the event after bringing the young fan to out the game last Sunday. By all accounts this was the first such occasion in league history, setting the tone for a great day of games to follow.

In Kihei, the Dirtbags edged out the Hurricanes 3-2 after Josh Meier came across to score the winning run in the bottom of the 8th. The Kihei Centipedes defeated the Makena Royals by a score of 6-4 in the afternoon game, another contest that was tied into the 8th inning.

The Lahaina Warriors topped the Central Rays 17-14 in a marathon game in Lahaina before the West Maui Brewers and La Perouse Pirates played 13 innings, finishing in a 7-7 tie due to darkness.

After a week off for Super Bowl Sunday, all teams will be back in action on February 9. Be sure to check back soon for scores, stats, and everything MABL.
