Mar 2019 Player of the Month

The Spring 2019 Maui Adult Baseball League season is headed down the stretch after a busy month of March. Teams played 5 or 6 games each, as weeknight games at Maehara Stadium took place. The candidates for the Player of the Month award were selected based on their performances during this span, with no more than one candidate per team. As always, voting is open to players, fans, and family, and is limited to 1 vote per individual.

MABL rookie RHP David Disabella burst into the league in March, immediately helping the Lahaina Warriors climb in the standings. After knocking the rust off in his first start, Disabella has gone 1-0 with a 2.16 ERA, a .183 opponent average, and 22 Ks over 16.2 IP. In consecutive starts on March 24, against the Centipedes, and March 31, against the Rays, he helped the Warriors to wins by pitching at least 5 innings and allowing 2 and 1 runs respectively.

The Pacific Hurricanes’ Brooks Faria helped his team to a pair of wins this month by hitting .474 (9 for 19) with 4 runs scored and 4 RBIs. The rookie catcher lead the Hurricanes with a .524 on-base percentage and .526 slugging percentage over 5 games.

The Central Rays’ Jeremy Loque got it done at the plate and on the mound in March. Loque paced one of the league’s top offenses, batting .563 (9 for 16) with 10 RBIs while hitting for the cycle over the course of 5 games. The home run, coming against the Centipedes on March 3, was his MABL-best 6th career longball. On the mound he appeared in 4 games, going 1-1 with a 2.06 ERA and .203 opponent average with 19 Ks over 13.1 IP.

Joseph McFarlin of the La Perouse Pirates earns his second straight nomination after an outstanding encore to his February performance. At the plate McFarlin led the league in average (.667) and on-base percentage (.813) while picking up 6 hits, 6 walks, and scoring 6 runs in 4 games. He continued his dominance on the mound going 1-0 with a save, a 1.93 ERA, a league-leading .143 opponent average, and 18 Ks in 14.0 IP.

The Upcountry Dirtbags’ Josh Meier put together a tremendous month of March, becoming the MABL’s all-time hit leader in the process. Meier, a participant of the inaugural MABL game, was tied for the league lead with 10 hits and 8 runs scored in March, while drawing 5 walks and stealing 4 bases for the ‘Bags. Over 6 games, he put up a .474/.593/.476 AVG/OBP/SLG line.

  1. David Disabella throws serious heat. Watch out for this kid to be at the top of the list in K’s per 9 innings by seasons end. And don’t let his 1 fluke start fool you. Cy Young material.
