Vote for April POTM

There’s one week left of the Maui Adult Baseball League’s Spring 2025 regular season and the top 4 teams are all playing to boost their playoff status. The Lahaina Warriors and Upcountry Dirtbags will meet on May 4 at Eddie Tam Park at 10:00am. The Dirtbags (8-5, current 4-seed) are hoping to force a 3-way tie between the Warriors (9-4) and the La Perouse Pirates (9-4), in which case the tie-breaker would be settled by the head-to-head games between the tied opponents (see Rule 23.4.1.1.2) which would give the Dirtbags the 2nd seed. The Warriors can clinch a top-two seed (and a bye for the first round of the playoffs) with a win tomorrow and a Pirates loss to the Kihei Centipedes (10-3, current top seed).

If the Pirates beat the Centipedes in their 1:15pm contest at Kalama Park in Kihei they will capture the 1st seed, with the Centipedes maintaining the first round bye via the 2nd seed if the Warriors lose. If the Pirates and the Warriors both win, the Pirates would own the head-to-head tie-breaker advantage (Rule 23.4.1.1.2) and earn the top seed and the Warriors would take the 2nd seed. If the Centipedes win on Sunday, they would secure their 2nd consecutive regular season first place finish and 4th in the past 5 seasons.

The Kaanapali Coast Monarchs (7-7, 5th seed) and West Maui Brewers (6-7, 6th seed) will round out the rest of the playoff field.

To get to this point, some of the MABL’s top players had to do impressive things on the baseball field. Five of those players are listed below as the candidates for the Maui Adult Baseball League’s April 2025 Player of the Month award! The Warriors’ Ian Delorme continued his tremendous season for the Warriors by hitting .462 (6 for 13) with a double, triple, 6 runs scored, and 4 RBIs over 5 games in April. Ian is slashing .462/.533/.538 in his third season in the league, good for the 3rd best OPS among qualified hitters!

Mike Gilligan has played a major role in the Pirates’ April climb. In 18.0 innings over 3 appearances, Gilligan went 2-0 while posted a 0.00 ERA and 0.61 WHIP, striking out 15 against only 2 walks. On the season, Gilligan currently leads all qualifying pitchers in opponents average (.163) and WHIP (0.84).

Dirtbags’ flamethrower Peter Reyes is recognized this month for his performance at the plate. Over 4 April games, Reyes hit .583 (7 for 12) — good for second in the league over that span — with 4 runs scored, 5 RBIs, and a league-leading 1.448 OPS. Peter hit his first MABL home run (which ultimately proved to be the game winner) on April 20th against the Brewers in Makawao.

Lance Simpson returned to action for the Brewers in late March, and by April he was leading the league in batting (.643) for the month. Over 4 games last month, Lance went 9 for 14 with a pair of doubles, 3 runs scored, 5 RBIs, and 2 stolen bases.

Ryder Souza went off for the Nahiku Gorillas in April! Over 4 games, Souza hit .462 (6 for 13) with a double and 4 runs scored, including a reaching base in all 4 plate appearances on April 8 against the Centipedes.
