Playoff race heating up

With four weeks left in the Spring 2019 regular season, every team is still alive in the hunt for a playoff spot. The La Perouse Pirates and West Maui Brewers were the first two teams to clinch playoff berths and figure to battle it out for the top seed in the coming weeks. The Lahaina Warriors and Central Rays can clinch their own spots this week if things go their way.

Due to some schedule changes as preparations are under way for the Hawaii High School Baseball Championship tournament to be hosted at Maehara in May, this Sunday will be the last full day of MABL games at the Stadium this season. The action is highlighted by the last game of the day, as the Rays take on the Pirates under the lights.

Featuring the two winningest teams in MABL history, this figures to be a marquee matchup with a playoff-like atmosphere. The Rays lead the all-time series, with 23 wins to the Pirates’ 19, but the Pirates have won the last 3 meetings between the teams. The game also features two of the early favorites for this season’s MVP award: Pirates’ backstop Steve Mearriam (.531 AVG, 17 hits, 15 runs, and 10 SBs) and the Rays’ Jeremy Loque (.542 AVG, 13 hits, 1 HR, 13 RBIs, as well as a 2-1 record, 2.08 ERA, and 29 Ks through 17.1 IP).

Come enjoy a day full of Maui Adult Baseball League action and be sure to hang out for the nightcap – first pitch is 6:00pm.
