First round playoff matchups set

The fight for the final playoff spots came down to the last weekend of the regular season, with the Upcountry Dirtbags, Lahaina Warriors, and Makena Royals all winning do-or-die matchups. Based on a 9-7 victory in their September 8 meeting, the Warriors held the tie-breaker advantage over the Dirtbags, making the Dirtbags the first 5-win team to miss the playoffs since the Kihei Centipedes during the Spring 2012 season.

The Summer 2019 MABL Playoffs will get underway at 10am on November 10 when the La Perouse Pirates (3rd seed, 9-4) host the Warriors (6th seed, 5-8-1) at Kalama Park in Kihei. The Pirates, who defeated the Warriors in both regular season matchups, were powered by the league’s top pitching staff this season and look to return to the Championship series after back-to-back trips the past two seasons. The Centipedes (4th seed, 7-6) and Royals (5th seed, 6-8) will face off at 1:15pm. The Centipedes rebounded from a disappointing Spring 2019 campaign which saw them miss the playoffs, and they will attempt to get back to the Championship series after winning a title during the Spring 2018 season. The Centipedes won both matchups against the Royals during the regular season.

The winners from the November 10 games will advance to play in best-of-three game series against the top two seeds beginning November 17. The West Maui Brewers (1st seed, 11-3) will play the lowest advancing seed, while the Central Rays (2nd seed, 10-4) will face the highest seed moving on from Round 1.
