With only two weeks left of the Maui Adult Baseball League Spring 2021 regular season, every game has major playoff implications. Currently the Pacific Hurricanes (4-8) are in control of the 6th and final playoff spot, but to secure their first postseason berth in franchise history they’ll have to hold off the Kihei Centipedes (3-9) and Lahaina Warriors (3-9) who both have clear paths to grabbing the 6th seed. The Warriors, who have surged late with 3 wins over their last 6 games, will get into the playoffs if they win their final two games and the Hurricanes lose out. The Centipedes go head to head with the Warriors and Hurricanes the next two weeks, and need to beat the Hurricanes by more than 3 runs and need a win against the Warriors, or a Hurricanes loss this week against the Central Rays. The Hurricanes control their own fate, and will get in by winning out, or by the Centipedes and Warriors failing to accomplish the aforementioned scenarios.
Besides the race for the 6th seed, the Makena Royals (10-2) and La Perouse Pirates (10-2) are battling for the top seed, and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. These two teams close out the regular season with a head to head meeting at Kalama Park on May 2, likely with the 1st seed on the line. In the case of equivalent final records, the Royals currently hold a +8 run differential advantage that the Pirates would need to overcome as a result of their Feb 21 meeting.
The 3rd through 5th seeds are currently held by the West Maui Brewers (6-6), Upcountry Dirtbags (6-6), and Rays (6-6) with the Brewers and Rays facing off the final weekend of the regular season. Whichever team captures the 3rd seed will have their choice of game location for the 1st round playoff matchups.
