The Kihei Centipedes and West Maui Brewers won their 1st Round Playoff matchups and will advance to the best-of-three semi-final round beginning this weekend.
The Centipedes knocked off the Upcountry Dirtbags 5-2 behind the pitching trio of Chuck Gibson, Ian Josh, and Chad Blackwell last Sunday. The Dirtbags pushed two runs across in the top of the 9th inning, but it was too little too late as the ‘Pedes held on for the win. To return to the Championship Series, the Centipedes will need to defeat the La Perouse Pirates who are led by rookie pitcher Roy Meinen.
The Brewers opened up the afternoon game last Sunday with 10 unanswered runs en route to a 10-4 win over the Nahiku Gorillas. Ryan Groth, Quinton Pedroza, and Josué Ríos contributed multi-hit games for the Brew Crew, with Ríos holding the Gorillas to 1 run over 4 innings on the mound. The Brewers return to the semi-final round for the first time since the Summer 2023 season as they look to advance to the Championship Series for the first time since 2019. To do so, they will need to beat John Lamb and the Lahaina Warriors.
