Return to Play Agreement

The following policies and guidelines constitutes the Maui Adult Baseball League’s Return to Play Plan, as required by the County of Maui’s Parks and Recreation Permits Office. All players, coaches, and umpires participating in league practices or games are required to read, acknowledge receipt of, and adhere to the rules listed below, in addition to existing MABL rules.

  • To the extent possible, physical distancing of six feet or more should generally be maintained
  • When reasonable, face coverings should be worn (not expected while engaged in active play)
  • Players and spectators must perform regular self-screening before attending a league event. The presence of the following symptoms may indicate COVID-19 and will require staying home:
    • Fever or chills
    • Cough
    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • Fatigue
    • Muscle or body aches
    • Headache
    • New loss of taste or smell
    • Sore throat
    • Congestion or runny nose
    • Nausea or vomitting
    • Diarrhea

  • Players or spectators who are sick from COVID-19 may not attend a practice or game until being cleared to return by a healthcare provider
  • Any participant exposed to a person with a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19 may not attend until they have completed quarantine following CDC guidelines
  • Under Phase 2 spectators are permitted. The maximum capacity of each permitted field will be no more than 60 people including players, coaches, umpires, and spectators.
  • Spectators must adhere to six feet of separation between members of separate households. No shared food is permitted. Spectators must wear a mask.
  • Team huddles, high fives, and handshakes are not permitted. There will be no post-game high fives between teams.
  • Batting helmets, catchers gear, gloves, and other equipment must not be shared. Disinfectant wipes will be provided.
  • Each player must bring their own drinks; no team water jugs may be used.
  • Paper lineups should not be exchanged before games. Lineups should be shared between managers via text message or picture.
  • If multiple games are played on the same day, adequate time must be scheduled in between games to allow for exiting of team who just finished playing and the sanitizing of the facility by the league prior to the next teams take over the facility.
  • No hanging out at the field or parking lot before or after games.
  • All high contact areas such as restrooms, railings, gates, dugouts, etc. must be cleaned and disinfected.
  • Each team will provide their own baseballs while on defense, to minimize the number of players in contact with balls. Baseballs will be supplied from a player or coach in the dugout so that umpires are not required to handle baseballs.
  • Pitchers are not permitted to “go to their mouth” between pitches. This will constitute an “illegal” ball which must immediately be replaced by the pitching team.
  • Any mound meetings must respect the six feet of separation rule.
  • Each game will be officiated by a single umpire, positioned behind the pitcher’s mound to call balls and strikes along with the usual calls made by a standard two-umpire crew.
  • All MABL players, managers, and umpires will be required to sign new participation waiver describing these policies and acknowledging risks associated with participation in group activities. This waiver will be made available as an online form on the league website.
  • The manager of each team will be responsible for ensuring all rules and requirements are followed during their team’s permitted activity. The MABL Commissioner is ultimately responsible for ensuring league compliance.
  • Failure to comply with the rules and regulations described in this plan will result in immediate non-participation. If a team manager fails to enforce all rules their team will no longer be granted use of league permits and the league runs the risk of the complete loss of permits.

I hereby acknowledge receipt of these rules and agree to abide as a condition for participating in all Maui Adult Baseball League functions until further notice.

I acknowledge the risks associated in participation in group activities at this time and release the MABL from any liabilities or costs that may arise.
