MABL Youth Clinic May 21

UPDATE: Photos of the 2023 MABL Youth Clinic were graciously provided by Anthony Valeriano (@anthony_valeriano) and can be viewed and downloaded here.

The Maui Adult Baseball League will be hosting their second annual free youth clinic for keiki ages 8-12 at Iron Maehara Baseball Stadium on Sunday, May 21. The instructional clinic will begin at 9:00am and run approximately 3.5 hours. Fundamentals of hitting, fielding, and pitching will be covered by former professional and collegiate baseball players who are members of Maui’s wood bat adult baseball league, with the goal of providing an incredible experience and morning of quality instruction to Maui’s youngest baseball players.

Parents can register children by submitting the online waiver below. Players should wear a hat, baseball pants, rubber cleats (or sneakers), and bring a glove and water. Players may bring their own bat and helmet if they have them. Any additional questions about the clinic can be submitted here.

Alongside the clinic the MABL will be hosting a Food Drive for the Maui Food Bank (mauifoodbank.org, @MauiFoodBank). The Maui Food Bank and MABL seek to supply food to anyone at risk of going hungry, including people living in the isolated communities of Hāna, Lāna’i, and Moloka’i. Suggested donations include canned meat and tuna, canned fruits and vegetables, canned meals and soups with proteins, and cereal, rice and pasta. Monetary donations may be made through the league’s Venmo account (@mauiadultbaseball, with reference to the “MABL Food Drive”).

Following the clinic, players and their families are welcome to stay and cheer for their favorite coaches as the MABL’s Spring Season Playoffs continue with afternoon games at Maehara Stadium.

A few of the coaches for the MABL Youth Clinic are introduced below!

John Lamb pitched for the Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Angels from 2014 through 2018 before joining the Lahaina Warriors last Spring. The former Major Leaguer now shares his knowledge and passion for the game through his organization Baseballscool, and he is excited to help out with the clinic.

Chad Blackwell was drafted by the Kansas City Royals as a pitcher out of the University of South Carolina in 2004. After several years of affiliated ball, Chad wrapped up his professional baseball career by playing for Maui Na Koa Ikaika in 2012, and currently plays in the MABL for the Kihei Centipedes.
