As the Summer 2024 regular season of the Maui Adult Baseball League winds down, the playoff picture continues to come into focus. The Kihei Centipedes (10-1) have clinched the top seed, with the Lahaina Warriors (7-4) on the verge of securing the other 1st round bye as the two seed. The La Perouse Pirates (6-5) and West Maui Brewers (6-5) will likely finish as the third and fourth seeds, depending on the outcomes of their games next Sunday. And the two of the Upcountry Dirtbags (4-8), Nahiku Gorillas (3-8), and Kaanapali Coast Monarchs (3-8) will grab the final playoff spots, with the Dirtbags and Gorillas in control heading into the last weekend of the regular season.
The five candidates for the October 2024 MABL Player of the Month poll have all come up big for their respective squads down the stretch, playing major roles in shaping the current playoff picture.

The Dirtbags’ Trevor Caughey went off at the plate last month, batting .556 with a 1.303 OPS over 5 games. Caughey led the league in hits (10), runs (6), and bases on balls (4) in October, and had a 5-hit game on October 20 in the ‘Bags win over the Gorillas.
Jacob Chong has been dealing for the Gorillas, as the youngest squad in the league has been making a strong push for their first ever postseason bid! Chong came up big with complete game wins over the Pirates (2 runs, 4 hits, 3 walks, and 10 Ks over 7.0 innings) and the Monarchs (1 run on 8 hits, 0 walks, and 12 Ks over 9.0 innings) in October. His 25 strikeouts over 3 outings led the MABL over that span!
Lefty Mike Gilligan held opponents scoreless in over 14.0 innings in October, lowering his ERA to 1.10 on the season. Against the Brewers on October 13, Gilligan threw a complete game shutout, surrendering just 6 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5 over 9.0 innings.
Ryan Swindle had a huge month of October. His .625/.667/1.000 AVG/OBP/SLG slash line was tops in the league, as were his 10 hits, 3 doubles, 1 home run, 5 RBIs, and 6 stolen bases. On top of all that, Swindle was 1-0 with 5 strikeouts over 6.0 scoreless innings for the ‘Pedes.
The Brewers’ Jeremy Taraya went 2-0 over 10.0 innings in October, holding opponents to a .250 average and a 2.70 ERA over that time frame. Taraya threw 5.0 shutout innings last weekend against the Dirtbags to earn the win in a 2-1 pitchers duel during the second game of a doubleheader.
