The Makena Royals won their second Maui Adult Baseball League Championship title, 2 games to 1, over the Upcountry Dirtbags on December 13.
After the Royals won the first game of the series by a score of 6-3, the Dirtbags’ offense came alive to even the series with a 10-8 victory in game 2. Aaron Hornostaj drove in 3 runs on 4 hits, and picked up a 3 inning save for the Dirtbags.
After the Dirtbags’ Tim Page hit a 2-run homer in the third inning of game 3, giving the Dirtbags a 5-2 lead, it was all Royals as they put up 6 runs in the bottom of the third en route to a 9-7 come from behind win. Mitchell Crim, Gered Mochizuki, and Tim Lyons contributed 3 hits a piece for the Royals, and rookie Nazareth Thibodeux went the distance on the mound, earning the complete game victory.
Congratulations to both teams for great seasons, and hats off to the Royals for an impressive Championship run!
