Jonah Abreu of the Central Rays was voted the MABL Player of the Month for August 2019 after receiving 53% of the 58 votes cast online. The La Perouse Pirates’ Joseph McFarlin finished second with support from 21% of voters. In his 18th season in the league, the Rays’ left fielder is off to a hot start at the plate batting .643 with a .722 on-base percentage and a .929 slugging percentage (all tops in the league) in August. Abreu’s 9 hits, 4 doubles, 8 RBIs, and 13 total bases also lead the league, and helped lead the Rays’ to a 5-0 record to start the season.
A member of the exclusive 200-game club, Abreu is a .331 career hitter, and is currently 6th all-time in hits (246) and total bases (293), 1st in career walks (202), and 2nd in runs batted in (159).
