We will have an open scrimmage this Sunday, June 17th, at Kalama Park with the first pitch at 10am for all those that are interested in playing.  Please show up about 9:15/9:30 to warm up and split up the teams.  Please bring $5-10 for the umpires.

What better way to spend Father’s Day than playing a little baseball oceanfront in the sun!

If you are new to the league or just thinking about playing there is no greater way than to get on the field and get back into the swing of things.

Hope to see you all this weekend!

New 40+ Division for Summer / Fall 2012

Posted on June 8th, 2012 by Brian Teeter

We are considering starting a new 40+ age division of MABL.  This new division will be seperate from the main division of MABL.  The tentative plan is as follows:

– 40+ games will play on Saturdays

– We are hoping to start with 2 teams and a 5 game season

– Teams will supply their own uniforms, and the home team will supply balls.

– The home team will pay the umpires (similar to open league)

– Players who play in 40+ can also play in 25+ regular MABL games

I hope that helps let you know what we are trying to do.  If you are interested or know someone who is, please contact me so we can put together a list of interested players.

Summer / Fall 2012 Season Details + Free Agency

Posted on June 1st, 2012 by Brian Teeter

We are in the process of finalizing the plans for the Summer / Fall 2012 season.  Here are the highlights of the upcoming season.  This is a lot to digest, but hopefully it helps let everyone understand what is happening.

1) We are still keeping 8 teams, but will consider adding another team only if absolutely necessary due to player turnout.  We are planning another 14 game regular season, and 4 team playoff exactly as we did this season.

2) The Summer 2012 season will start July 8th and run through October.  The playoffs will end mid-November prior to Thanksgiving.

3) There will be 2 games at 2 locations each week.  Game times will be 10a and 1:15p.  If we play at the Stadium that is subject to change.  If we cannot get permits for 2 locations that is subject to change.

4) Games will not stop if there is a tie at 3 hours.  Games will play until a winner is decided, or the umpires call the game for safety issues.  (Rain, lack of sun, etc.)

5) Team rosters can have up to 17 registered, rostered players.

6) This season, there is no A/B rule, no 9 or 10 player batting rules.  Every player who is present at a game must be in the batting order.  The only exception is if a player chooses not to bat or is injured.  Players cannot be pressured by their managers to not “want” to bat.  If you pick up players on your roster, and they show up, they hit.  This is to correct situations we’ve had in past seasons where players are held on rosters, attend games but are not given the chance to play or hit.

7) In order to participate in the playoffs next season, you must either be on the opening day roster of your team, or you must have played 5 games with the team.  There will be no exceptions to this rule except in cases of injury and only to allow a 9 man roster to be fielded for the playoffs.

8) Trick ball plays are once again allowed due to popular demand.

9) All players new and old are officially free agents and there will be no draft.  You are free to change teams so long as the Manager of the team you plan to move to accepts you on their roster.

10) Furthermore Managers can at their discretion drop players from their roster.

11) We request that players and managers inform each other of their intentions to move teams as soon as possible so everyone has time to plan and find a new team if they need or want to do so.

I think that is it for now.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  I will be updating the website in the coming days with all the info on the next season, as well as rules changes and other important details.
