Open Scrimmage this Sunday

Posted on August 30th, 2011 by Brian Teeter

Due to the holiday this coming weekend, there are no regular scheduled games this coming Sunday.

For those interested we will be having an open scrimmage Sunday in Kihei starting at 10am.  Please arrive at 9 am for warm ups, field conditioning and team selections.  Be sure to bring $5 to contribute for umpires and balls.

One of the great parts of these scrimmages is to play with guys you normally play against.  So we will be mixing up players from different teams to keep it interesting.  See you then!

Week 6 Results – 2nd ever no-hitter in MABL history!

Posted on August 20th, 2011 by Brian Teeter

Week 6 saw the standing get a bit tighter for every team making for a very exciting final four weeks of the regular season.

The Central Rays handed the La Perouse Pirates their first loss of the season when Barry Takahashi threw the second ever no hitter in MABL history.  The victory for the Rays pulled them within a half game of first place.  Also half a game back are the Lahaina Warriors after their victory over the Upcountry Dirtbags.

The Kihei Centipedes remain in 4th place after a narrow victory over the North Shore Navigators, who had the tying run on base in the 9th inning.  The West Maui Brewers remained 1 game out of fourth place with a victory over the Maui Marlins.  The Brewers are only 2 games out of first place and control their own fate with 3 of their 4 remaining games against teams ahead of them in the standings.

It will be a great stretch run for the 2011 Summer Season.  Don’t miss any of the action!

At the end of the season, along with the awards we have traditionally voted on and given to deserving players we will be adding a new one in honor of Ken.

Kenneth J. Talbot III Award:   Given to one who best exemplifies the game of baseball through sportsmanship, community involvement, and positive contributions toward others as he did, on and or off the field.

The award pays tribute to Ken’s character and aspirations by recognizing players who truly understand the value of helping others.

Passing of our friend Ken Talbot

Posted on August 2nd, 2011 by Brian Teeter

Saturday night we lost a great player, teammate and above all amazing, compassionate and caring friend.  Kenny Talbot was killed in a motorcycle accident in Wailea late Saturday night, just hours after the Dirtbags game. It was his first season in the Maui Adult Baseball League and roamed the outfield for the Upcountry Dirtbags.  Ken was a man of action and carried himself with a dignity far beyond his 28 years. Ken wasted no time in embracing the league and was well liked and respected by his teammates and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ken’s family.
